AI-Powered Product Content Management for a Nordic Sports Nutrition Marketplace

Client Background:

An international sports nutrition marketplace operating across Denmark and Sweden. The store runs on Magento 1 and manages thousands of product SKUs – supplements, proteins, vitamins, and fitness equipment – across two separate storefronts and multiple product languages. With a catalog of this scale, keeping product data accurate and consistent is a constant operational challenge.

Challenge:

Managing product content in Magento 1 at scale is manual and time-intensive by default. Each SKU requires accurate attributes – ingredient lists, nutritional values, allergen information, certifications, category assignments, and market-specific descriptions. The content team was spending the majority of their time on repetitive updates instead of higher-value work. With no native AI tooling in Magento 1 and no budget for a full platform migration, the client needed a practical solution that worked within their existing stack.

Solution:

BroSolutions developed a custom MCP (Model Context Protocol) server module for Magento 1, enabling direct integration with Claude Desktop – Anthropic’s AI assistant. This allowed the content team to manage product data through natural language commands, without manual navigation through the Magento admin panel for every update.

How It Works:

  1. Custom MCP module: A Magento 1 module exposes product and category data through MCP-compatible endpoints. Claude can read and write product attributes, descriptions, and category assignments directly through this layer.
  2. Claude Desktop integration: The content team connects Claude Desktop to the MCP server. Editors can instruct the AI to update product attributes, generate descriptions, reorganize categories, or process changes across hundreds of SKUs in a single session.
  3. Natural language interface: Instead of navigating Magento admin screens, editors use plain instructions – “Update all whey protein products to include the new allergen warning” or “Generate SEO descriptions for this category” – and Claude handles execution through the MCP connector.

Implementation:

The custom Magento 1 module was built to expose a lightweight API layer compatible with the MCP standard. Key technical decisions included:

  • Scoped read/write access – the MCP server exposes only product and category endpoints, keeping the integration focused and the attack surface minimal.
  • Batch operation support – Claude can process multiple products in a single request, which is essential for catalog-scale updates.
  • Dry-run mode – before applying changes, Claude can preview what will be updated, giving editors a review step before committing.
  • Logging – all AI-initiated changes are logged in Magento with a source flag, making it easy to audit or roll back updates if needed.

Results:

  • Product content updates that previously took 3-4 hours per category are now completed in under 25 minutes.
  • Time spent on routine product updates reduced by approximately 70%, freeing the content team for higher-value work.
  • Over 3,500 product attribute updates processed in the first 6 weeks of deployment.
  • Consistent product data quality across both storefronts, with significantly fewer manual errors.

Technology Stack:

  • Magento 1 (custom MCP server module)
  • Claude Desktop (Anthropic)
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Conclusion:

This project shows that legacy platforms can be connected to modern AI tooling without a full migration. By building an MCP bridge for Magento 1, BroSolutions gave the client’s team direct access to Claude AI within their existing workflow. The result is a content pipeline that scales with the catalog and shifts the team’s time from repetitive admin work to work that actually moves the business forward.
